About Margaret Beeks Elementary

In 1962, the cornerstone for a new elementary school was laid.  The school was named in honor of Miss Margaret Beeks.  Ms. Beeks was a respected Montgomery County educator. She worked as an art teacher in the primary and secondary schools in Blacksburg and also served as principal of the old Blacksburg Elementary School located on Roanoke Street and Draper Road.  Margaret Beeks Elementary School opened in September 1963 for grades 1-7.  This was the first time that Montgomery County schools were integrated.  The last four classrooms of the elementary wing were added after only one year.  The annex building, which currently houses our 5th grade, was added to the campus in the early 1970’s.
